Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens - better popularly referred to as Queen Latifah is an American performer, actress and a singer. Queen Latifah's work in music film and television has earned her the Golden Globe award two Screen Actors Guild Awards two Image Awards a Grammy Award Six additional Grammy nominations and an Emmy Award nomination and an Academy Award nomination. Queen Latifah is the daughter of a Newark New Jersey schoolteacher and an Newark New Jersey police officer Lancelot Owens Senior was born and raised within Newark New Jersey. The couple divorced in the year Latifah was ten years old. Latifah was a student at a Catholic school and received her education at Newark New Jersey. She went to at the Baptist church. Latifah was her stage name when she reached the age of eight. It means very fragile in Arabic. Latifah, a 5'10" tall forward on her high school team was always a tall girl. The song she sang was home from The Wiz at a school play. Latifah started to beatbox for the group known as Ladies Fresh. Latifah is one of the first members of Flavor Unit, which was in the beginning a group composed of MCs led by DJ Mark the45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King, recorded Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps the Fab Five Freddy. The song got the attention of Tommy Boy Music employee Dante Ross who has signed Latifah and, in 1988, released her debut single Wrath of My Madness.
